Jack Schapp Exposed and then Fired!

69 comments Posted by Hannah at 6:16 PM

Anyone remember this man?

This is Jack Schaap, and some may remember him from the 20/20 special that aired regarding Tina Anderson.  Jack Schaap’s attitude was exposed then as far as I’m concerned.

For some strange reason – I’m sure narcissism – he decided to do a follow up sermon after that story on 20/20 with additional rants about how he was glad he was a man.

When people got upset over it – which he claims WHO CARES – they went around and attempted to scrub this ugly portion of the sermon DOWN off the internet.

Jack Schaap’s transcript is something I wrote out since he was taking down his words of arrogance.  His audience seemed to like it as they hooted and hollered their support from the pews.   The upload of this is on Internet Archive.  This did not get removed.

They seem to forget once it is on the internet?  Its almost impossible to scrub it clean completely.

I wouldn't get theology from a woman. I don't mind if mamma teaches the kids, I don't mind a strong lady, and a wise woman, and a gracious godly woman, that follows the lesson and teaching of the pastor.

Hey all you listening to me right now, I still believe it would be a cold day in Hell before i get my theology from a woman. I'm a preacher. Wasn't called papa sin(?).

No woman ever got me involved in ministry. I didn't follow a woman into ministry. A woman didn't write this book. No woman wrote the scriptures right here. A man wrote the Bible -- got it from God. A man hung on the cross. His name is Jesus Christ and God called a man to lead the church here. Hey! I'm glad I'm a man!

So many of you got nervous. Saw the preacher on the news. Praise the Lord the word of God is being quoted. More than some of you're doing about getting the word of god out.

I don't care about being politically correct. I don't care who it hair lips. I don't care if it bothers everybody from the White House, or the old man sitting in the out house. I wanna know what's going on in the church house, and I'm the messenger of the church.

This man of God (cough) has been fired this week due to his own ‘sexual sin’.  The hints of a story started on Facebook this morning, and honestly I wasn’t sure if it was true or not.  By this afternoon it was in the newspapers.

schaap

Jack Schaap has been dismissed from his church.

The note on facebook seems to be true, although I’m sure more details will surface in time.

Here is what the facebook note stated:

I need to get the word out there...Jack Schaap, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Hammond was fired from his pastorate for beign a pedophile and raping a teen girl. She is under the legal age. She is a bus kid. She began counseling for sexual abuse. She took advantage of her. He preyed on her. He raped her. He's a filthy pervert. He is a corrupt, evil pedophile. He was caught while the youth conference because he left his cell phone on the pulpit. A deacon picked up the phone and saw a photo which she had just texted him of them in a sexual encounter. This is not hear-say. This information is from the police. He will be prosecuted. And if anyone is withholding information, they will be prosecuted as well. He's a RAPIST. He is a CHILD MOLESTER. He is a PEDOPHILE. We must take a stand!!! Silence breeds this behavior. Let's use our voice and support those who know what happened ... they need to tell everything to the police. Lets stand by the bus kid he abused. Let's not tolerate people in authority to rape children. We are suppose to be christians and we need to have righteous indignation!!! Jack Schaap is a pervert, he raped a teen, he's a pedophile, committed adultery, liar, deceiver, sex offender, predator, corrupt, power hungry, and should be in prison. And if we do what's right, he will be in prison and will not be able to prey on any more young girls. Please get the word out there. We need to stand together as one. Stand up for this girl. Stand up for those who know all the details and the police are questioning. They need to tell the truth and we will rally behind them.

It seems this church has learned something from the whole Chuck Phelps and Tina Anderson mess.  So far they don’t seem to be ‘hiding’ anything, and have involved the police.  What other’s have said?  Jack Schaap and his family have indeed left town, and he was due to preach this evening.

I hope they do NOT make excuses for this man.  Goodness knows we saw enough attempting to justify everything from Tina’s rape to Chuck Phelps handling of the case.  Those justifications make them look like fools, and so far it seems they seem to be doing the right thing.

jack schaap exposedWhat seems ironic is that Jack Schaap’s just did some strange sermon on, ‘What Mom and Dad Don’t Know Will Hurt Him’.  He was basically talking ugly about teenagers, and how he is the modern day Dr. Spock for the parents at this time.  Bleck!

”And I’ll look at the person and say, who ya sleeping with? Your kid’s problem(s) isn’t, the, did you see how short her skirt is, no, the problem is, she takes her skirt, and everything else off. Your kids are coming to me and telling me they have sexual experiences in the hundreds; hundreds; hundreds.”

As most of his sermons are currently being scrubbed from the internet as we speak?  You have to wonder if a bit of projection wasn’t going on there.

Presently David Gibbs, official lawyer for scandal ridden fundamentalist churches, is flying in for damage control.

Let’s hope they continue down the right path.  You just know this is going to be bad.  There will be plenty of people hurt.

My prayers are with them.

Did Doug Wilson Drop His Disclaimer?

0 comments Posted by Hannah at 10:55 AM

that is not what I meantI wanted to do a follow up piece about my last blog post, Shock Jock Doug Wilson Penetrates The Gospel Coalition.   I did modify the last post because Jared Wilson decided to take down his articles that brought such offense to many.  I did kept the cache of these pieces so that the article still had its reference.

Jared Wilson posted an apology.    Some Reflections, Just one Explanation, and an apology.   Some aren’t truly satisfied completely with it, but it is a good start!

My first foolishness in posting the original excerpt was not to heed Douglas Wilson’s disclaimer in the beginning of his book. He characterizes it as a “blunt instrument” and describes the particular audience he is writing for. That should have been my first indication either not to post the piece at all or to have at least posted it with a sufficient prefatory warning or more parsing of context. Either way, the blame for the insensitive bluntness of the blog post is not his, but totally mine.
What did the disclaimer say?  He maybe referring to the beginning of Chapter one of Doug Wilson’s book called Fidelity.
This book was written for men and their sons.  I suggest that wives read this only when their husbands give it to them, and no the other way around.  The introduction mentioned the issue of 'straight talk' - and this means, in part, a rejection of euphemism.  Some of what is said here may be offensive to some Christian women, but the point is certainly not to give offense.  The point is to provide biblically specific and pointed help to Christian males.
Euphemism - the substitution of a mild, indirect, or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh, or blunt.

From what I gather since this book was for men only, it seems that Doug Wilson feels they wouldn’t have been offended by how he words things.  I know my brother and my father would not have appreciated it anyway, but maybe he feels some men can’t grasp his point without them.  To be honest, I think it is just a disclaimer due to his style of communication more than anything.

I’m not going to link to Doug Wilson’s comments, but I did grab the cache of his article as well.  The Politics of Outrage

Shock Jock Doug Wilson Penetrates Gospel Coalition

“The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”-1st Corinthians 7:4-5

marriage-bedThe blog world seems on fire over a recent article by the Gospel Coalition.   The article was called, ‘The Polluted Waters of 50 Shades of Grey, Etc.’, and to be fair a follow up piece called, ‘Shades of Outrage”.

(Note:  I edited the above links due to them removing from website.  I have placed a cached image of the articles in question in my google docs so you may still view them.  Jared Wilson also offered up an apology.)

I’m sure you might have guessed that the author Jared Wilson was talking about a secular book that seems popular today.  To be fair?  I haven’t read it, and honestly don’t know much about it except for what is talked about briefly in the news.

To me, there seems to be enough on our plates as Christians.  I don’t understand why we seem to have to remind the body of Christ of ‘what the world thinks’ of things.  It’s the world right?  We aren’t told to conquer or scold the world, and I have to wonder if some do forget what the mission as Christians is.

Today in different circles of faith I realize that some like to use these types of items as tools.    Its tools to use against the other circles of faith that seem to have doctrinal – along with other differences from themselves.  I find it kind of childish at times, and I honestly don’t know why people ‘buy into it’ to the extreme that they do.  (In this circumstance – they use the marriage bed like this, and we view it like that type of thing)

Name calling, and swapping personal jabs tends to repel people from coming to the faith more than anything.  Why wouldn’t it?  You see in on the news, in the work place, and in the current politic environment all the time.   When people act like this?  They can claim all the wish they are different from the ‘world’, but their speech and actions certainly don’t back them up with anything substantial.

What the uproar seems to be about is a quote from Christian ‘shock jock’ Douglas Wilson.  From I can gather?  He is the fringe of the fringe of what most would say is the patriarchy or complementarian circles.   So why do pastor’s like John Piper, or organizations like The Gospel Coalition quote him?  That does make you wonder doesn’t  it?!

As you might have guessed the original article was about how the ‘general public’ is going nuts over this new book, and how they just don’t grasp what God’s intent is for the marriage bed.

Here is the quote most are talking about:
When we quarrel with the way the world is, we find that the world has ways of getting back at us. In other words, however we try, the sexual act cannot be made into an egalitarian pleasuring party. A man penetrates, conquers, colonizes, plants. A woman receives, surrenders, accepts. This is of course offensive to all egalitarians, and so our culture has rebelled against the concept of authority and submission in marriage. This means that we have sought to suppress the concepts of authority and submission as they relate to the marriage bed. – Shock Jock Doug Wilson
My first thought?  Here is a gentleman (Jared Wilson) that is calling out a book that he states is like acceptable po#n of the day.  How the world thinks it is acceptable to live out rape fantasies and such.  So what does he do?

He quotes the Christian Shock Jock Doug  Wilson from his book, ‘Fidelity: What It Means to be a One-Woman Man’.  (If you are interested it’s the chapter on rape on the link)  If you notice the above bolded part Doug Wilson uses what most recognize as ‘rape language’ to show how he feels is the proper context for the marriage bed.

The Blind Side of the Southern Baptist Convention

If Jesus acted like many of us, he would have stayed in heaven. - Eyvonne Sharp
lifeway_storeI wanted to write today about some of the silliness that I have seen recently.  To me it shows the world ‘us against them’ is taught within the church.  Shameful as it is.

In 2009 we were presented with the movie called, ‘The Blind Side’.  Now keep in mind Hollywood tends to sugar the story up a bit, but overall the message was clear.

Michael Oher to me had a village that helped him get out of poverty, and on his way to a better life.  The movie concentrated on the relationship between Leigh Anne Tuohy and Michael Oher.  She was represented as a ‘take charge’ type of gal, and no doubt I’m sure that is part of her personality.  The Tuohy family basically was presented as giving him a home, and help to use his gifts to the fullest potential.

Now we don’t know if Michael could not make it out of poverty in a gang infested neighborhood alone.  We do know there are plenty of children in his circumstance with roadblocks that are daunting, and at times makes it look almost impossible.  Michael had the drive and will to make it INSIDE, and thankfully had a boatload of people that wanted to help him along with the Tuohy family.

One scene in the movie I have read that bothered the ‘real’ Michael Oher.  He felt that it was presented that Leigh Anne Tuohy was showing him HOW to play football.  How that really frosted him.  I personally didn’t get that impression at all.    Lets look at the scene I believe he was talking about.

Do you know what I see?  I see a teenage boy that lost his focus, and Leigh Anne gave him a pep talk to help him ‘re’ focus because she knew he had it in him.  She just knew how to draw it out of him, and the coach at the time DIDN’T!  She knew Michael knew HOW to play football, but all kids at times lose their focus.  Heck adults at times do also no?

As a mom?  I would see the coaches losing interest and confidence in him, because he wasn’t doing what he needed to at the time.  She knew the talent was there, and he wasn’t focused enough at the time to show his gift.  She told him to picture his team as ‘his family’ and how he has their back.  That is called encouragement, and we all need it at times.

The real Michael had more than just the Tuohy family.  The movie doesn’t show that at times, but hints at it here and there.  That’s Hollywood!  The relationship with Christ, and showing Christlike behavior is also hinted at.  How many scriptures are there that speak about helping others in a sacrificial way?  Those within Michael Oher circle of supporters did just that, and the movie has been in Christian bookstores ever since.

So what is the silly part?  The Southern Baptist convention asked that Lifeway Bookstore remove the movie, ‘The Blind Side’ from its shelves.  Why?
"I pray that there will not be any more products with explicit profanity, God's name used in vain, and racial slur sold in our Lifeway Christian Book Stores. - Rev. Fred Luter, SBC President"
In other words, the story was too true to life for them.  Life outside the Christian bubble has some dirty parts, but at least the outside world will speak about things realistically.  If you can’t handle the reality for children like Michael Oher?  How are you going to mentor, guide, and help these children?  You can’t if you are too offended by the world they live in.

Is that HOW we prepare our children to deal with the world outside their parent’s house – or outside the church doors?  Just because others do things, doesn’t mean we have to ‘join in’.  The overall message of the movie was good and something so many others can aspire too.  Since it wasn’t sanitized enough we must instead be ‘offended’ by it.  We can’t reach people that had the will to not only survive but thrive like Michael Oher did if we can’t handle the neighborhoods, and the people surrounding them acting as some would say ‘the world’.

My children went to a Christian elementary, and middle school with some monetary help from others.  Their relationship with God was helped and expanded by those within that church and school.  In other words, their faith life was benefited in so many ways.  That was able to happen even without the ‘sanitized’ environment that other’s feel is needed.    You see even if others don’t wish to admit it the ‘world’ DOES creeps in within the church as well.  When the kids entered public high school?  Their understanding of Christlike behavior helped them deal with the ugliness of the world around them.  They were prepared in some ways, and Why do others completely miss that essential part?

I remember my daughter speaking to me about a pregnant girl in her high school.    She was outraged at how terrible she was being treated by others.  She knew how to look past the sin of ‘premarital’ sex, and offer grace to her.   Should I as her mother be ‘offended’ that she didn’t give this child what for, and remind my child this girl is living her consequences?   Should I rush to figure out a way of getting her OUT of the ‘evil’ school, because her virgin eyes saw something not acceptable?

We need to have balance.  The movie in that bookstore had a rating of PG13.  You had the warning, and if people within your family are NOT mature enough to the rating that was clearly noted on the box?  Don’t buy it!

I feel sorry for people that can’t see the true, honest and awesome sacrificial way those around Michael Oher uplifted, encouraged, and YES helped him strive and achieve his dream in life.  Could he have made it without them?  Yes.  It would have been much harder for him.  We are asked to do what those people in Michael's life did for him if you look closely at scripture.  What it doesn’t say is to NOT try to help others if they are outside your sanitized biblical small little bubble.

How awful for the missionaries that they send out into the ‘world’!  They see ugliness far worse than what was seen in this movie.  It’s a wonder they can get anything accomplished!

They need to put that movie back on the shelve, and learn to grow up.  Since they love to come back with extremes in response at times?  NO that doesn’t mean you have sell p@rn next okay!  No that doesn’t mean other types of things either.  From me to you – it means get a GRIP!

What I’m saying is if you can’t be inspired and encouraged by a story like that?  You seriously need to check yourself.  Life has ugly parts, and we can be encouraged and inspired despite them.  It happens all the time.

Come into the real world and breath the air!  Drop the silliness, and live as Christ would have you do.  Christ can protect you from that poison you see at times – remember you have FAITH! … despite your actions to the contrary.  The separate from the world part of the bible?  You are taking it way to far, and you will not be able to do as the people in the movie did if you can’t see that.

Polarization of Egalitarians

2 comments Posted by Hannah at 12:08 PM

Recently on the website ‘girls gone wise’ Mary Kassian wrote an article called, ‘complementarianism for dummies’.  Once again they seem to claim that people do not understand their positions, and feel the need to put it in clearer terms.  Some of the items she speaks about that are incorrect to her came from her own words she spoke in the past.  For example, Mary states:
June Cleaver is a traditional, American, cultural TV stereotype. She is NOT the complementarian ideal. Period. (And exclamation mark!) Culture has changed. What complementarity looks like now is different than what it looked like sixty or seventy years ago. So throw out the cookie-cutter stereotype. It does not apply.
Mary Kassian used the stereotype of June Cleaver in her presentation of, “You have come a long way Baby!”  She used this stereotype to show how our culture has changed from wholesome, moral, Godly belief system to acceptance of a Murphy Brown type of stereotype.  It was her own presentation of this that brought about this ‘cookie cutter’ idea.

In today’s society when you use such extreme models for how things ‘should be’ and how things ‘are’ outside your belief system?  You need to learn from your mistakes, and not try to demonize aspects in such an extreme manner.  People see it for what it is, and you need to accept the backlash.  You created it!  Some will see it for what it is – scare tactics – and others will wonder how extreme YOU are?

I realize she is attempting to ‘theme’ this article after the ‘for dummies’ series you see in bookstores, but I also have to wonder due to her past remarks if it also had a ugly twist to it.  She does seem to have a habit of talking down to her readers.  Mary Kassian also has a habit of using the most awful examples you can come up with, and tell her readers this is how ‘most’ believe or accept things.  This is just not realistic.

Sadly, with her presentations she also encourages other women/men that are complementarian to react in a defensive manner, because she models this for them.  ‘We believe like this, and they believe like that’ type of thing doesn’t seem to be working for them.  No doubt Mary Kassian sees her rhetoric copied and used by others.  The part I don’t think she counted on is people basically turn it around, and use the opposite extreme towards her beliefs.

They have to ask themselves….how is this polarization working for them so far?
