Jack Schapp Exposed and then Fired!

Posted by Hannah at 6:16 PM

Anyone remember this man?

This is Jack Schaap, and some may remember him from the 20/20 special that aired regarding Tina Anderson.  Jack Schaap’s attitude was exposed then as far as I’m concerned.

For some strange reason – I’m sure narcissism – he decided to do a follow up sermon after that story on 20/20 with additional rants about how he was glad he was a man.

When people got upset over it – which he claims WHO CARES – they went around and attempted to scrub this ugly portion of the sermon DOWN off the internet.

Jack Schaap’s transcript is something I wrote out since he was taking down his words of arrogance.  His audience seemed to like it as they hooted and hollered their support from the pews.   The upload of this is on Internet Archive.  This did not get removed.

They seem to forget once it is on the internet?  Its almost impossible to scrub it clean completely.

I wouldn't get theology from a woman. I don't mind if mamma teaches the kids, I don't mind a strong lady, and a wise woman, and a gracious godly woman, that follows the lesson and teaching of the pastor.

Hey all you listening to me right now, I still believe it would be a cold day in Hell before i get my theology from a woman. I'm a preacher. Wasn't called papa sin(?).

No woman ever got me involved in ministry. I didn't follow a woman into ministry. A woman didn't write this book. No woman wrote the scriptures right here. A man wrote the Bible -- got it from God. A man hung on the cross. His name is Jesus Christ and God called a man to lead the church here. Hey! I'm glad I'm a man!

So many of you got nervous. Saw the preacher on the news. Praise the Lord the word of God is being quoted. More than some of you're doing about getting the word of god out.

I don't care about being politically correct. I don't care who it hair lips. I don't care if it bothers everybody from the White House, or the old man sitting in the out house. I wanna know what's going on in the church house, and I'm the messenger of the church.

This man of God (cough) has been fired this week due to his own ‘sexual sin’.  The hints of a story started on Facebook this morning, and honestly I wasn’t sure if it was true or not.  By this afternoon it was in the newspapers.

schaap

Jack Schaap has been dismissed from his church.

The note on facebook seems to be true, although I’m sure more details will surface in time.

Here is what the facebook note stated:

I need to get the word out there...Jack Schaap, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Hammond was fired from his pastorate for beign a pedophile and raping a teen girl. She is under the legal age. She is a bus kid. She began counseling for sexual abuse. She took advantage of her. He preyed on her. He raped her. He's a filthy pervert. He is a corrupt, evil pedophile. He was caught while the youth conference because he left his cell phone on the pulpit. A deacon picked up the phone and saw a photo which she had just texted him of them in a sexual encounter. This is not hear-say. This information is from the police. He will be prosecuted. And if anyone is withholding information, they will be prosecuted as well. He's a RAPIST. He is a CHILD MOLESTER. He is a PEDOPHILE. We must take a stand!!! Silence breeds this behavior. Let's use our voice and support those who know what happened ... they need to tell everything to the police. Lets stand by the bus kid he abused. Let's not tolerate people in authority to rape children. We are suppose to be christians and we need to have righteous indignation!!! Jack Schaap is a pervert, he raped a teen, he's a pedophile, committed adultery, liar, deceiver, sex offender, predator, corrupt, power hungry, and should be in prison. And if we do what's right, he will be in prison and will not be able to prey on any more young girls. Please get the word out there. We need to stand together as one. Stand up for this girl. Stand up for those who know all the details and the police are questioning. They need to tell the truth and we will rally behind them.

It seems this church has learned something from the whole Chuck Phelps and Tina Anderson mess.  So far they don’t seem to be ‘hiding’ anything, and have involved the police.  What other’s have said?  Jack Schaap and his family have indeed left town, and he was due to preach this evening.

I hope they do NOT make excuses for this man.  Goodness knows we saw enough attempting to justify everything from Tina’s rape to Chuck Phelps handling of the case.  Those justifications make them look like fools, and so far it seems they seem to be doing the right thing.

jack schaap exposedWhat seems ironic is that Jack Schaap’s just did some strange sermon on, ‘What Mom and Dad Don’t Know Will Hurt Him’.  He was basically talking ugly about teenagers, and how he is the modern day Dr. Spock for the parents at this time.  Bleck!

”And I’ll look at the person and say, who ya sleeping with? Your kid’s problem(s) isn’t, the, did you see how short her skirt is, no, the problem is, she takes her skirt, and everything else off. Your kids are coming to me and telling me they have sexual experiences in the hundreds; hundreds; hundreds.”

As most of his sermons are currently being scrubbed from the internet as we speak?  You have to wonder if a bit of projection wasn’t going on there.

Presently David Gibbs, official lawyer for scandal ridden fundamentalist churches, is flying in for damage control.

Let’s hope they continue down the right path.  You just know this is going to be bad.  There will be plenty of people hurt.

My prayers are with them.

wow, how dare you write this stuff about Schaap! You make me sick!Jack Schaap is one of the greatest men on this earth. He did not rape her and she wasnt a bus kid so get your facts straight, you heartless idiot! I am not condoning what is the truth I am simply sticking up for him in the sense that the story has gotten way out of hand! In God's eyes all sins are equal and if He can forgive us then who are we to judge and not forgive others as well? some Christians, eh? This man is a very good man who yes, has made a mistake and in regards to that mistake being asked to leave FBC, but he is only human and NO HUMAN deserves to have trash like this written about them! I sure hope God opens your eyes to the truth and gives you a heart...because you, my friend, I feel sorry for!

Why don't you stop running your mouth?! Instead of criticizing someone, why don't you do what YOU'RE supposed to do and stop spreading over-exaggerated news. Yes, he was fired. You're definitely wrong about him being a rapist. Did you know that he's a HUMAN? Just because he sinned, doesn't mean you don't. Let me remind you that you're a sinner too. We all sin differently. So, before you tell everyone on the internet what Bro. Schaap is, make sure you have your facts straight. Don't bring him down, FELLOW CHRISTIAN. Provoke him not to hate but to love. Why do you think so many people hate God and Christianity all together? Because, the world looks at what we Christians do. Is this really Christ-honoring? Yes, I admit, what he did was very wrong. I'm not defending him for his sin. I'm defending for what he has done and what he stands for--God. He has positively influenced millions and has spread the Gospel. What are you doing, demeaning someone else? Shame on you! Don't take things out of proportion or out of context! Grow up. Win people to Jesus. Don't lose people to Satan. Do you think talking bad about this human would really help others want to run to Jesus? Instead of criticizing you, I'll pray for you.

Is this the same "David Fibbs" who joyfully preached the 30th anniversary service for a divorced, adulterer, and "accused" pedophile Mark Chappell? God help us!

Anonymous 2 & 3:

Jack Schaap has been throwing around 'trash' for years. He also has been judging as well. When did you ever ask him to stop? Don't accuse others of something you clearly have not done yourself.

You also seem to have clearly not read what was written here prior to throwing around 'judgment' yourself.

We are to judge those within the body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 5:9-13

9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister[a] but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.

Its those outside the body are the ones you shouldn't concern yourself with.

Read the whole bible, and not just certain scripture to use under 'certain' circumstances. If you are concerned about the outside world? What are you teaching them by doing so?

Come on you guys..we can't defend this. The guy has preached at my church too...he was always arrogant. He's not "just another Christian" out there and oh gee, lets forgive and forget. He was in a very high postion of authority and mega-exposure.....as such,he is held to a higher standard... not because his sin is in any way worse than yours or mine.....but because the impact of his fall on both his church members and all Christians across the country is far worse....for that reason alone this is a horrible tragedy for the cause of Christ which is all that matters.

Anonymous said...

His sins are no worse than anyone else in Gods eyes. All sin is equal. Jack Schaap is a man a HUMAN with a sin nature just like everyone else.

1. The van is from a church in Woodlawn, TN that is not affiliated with Jack Schaap or FBC Hammond. It's a pretty old pic, so I don't know if they ever found out who had parked there or addressed the situation.

2 & 3. Schaap had his good moments and bad moments, like most people, but one of the biggest problems among IFB churches has been hiding the sins of pastors and other leaders and allowing them to move on and prey on other people. FBC did right in confronting this and they released this information to the press and their staff, so even they so nothing wrong with getting the word out about it. Yes, we all sin, but being a pastor and a leader, especially one in the spotlight so much comes with responsibility and of course you are going to be scrutinized when you do something you know is wrong, especially while preaching against it during your own ongoing sin.

That said, all of the facts are not out yet, but some of the things being said on facebook and picked up here and in other reports do seem too be exaggerated:

As far as I've heard from reliable sources (I'm a former HAC student and in contact with people who are still members and staff at FBC & HAC), the pictures were not of a sexual encounter, but one of them kissing and some of the girl, alone, that were explicit. Schaap apparently told the deacons there was no sexual contact, which may or may not be true, but evidently there was no photographic proof of it.

Also, the girl is 17 now and was 16 when the "relationship" started and she was a willing participant (although still not legally consenting because of the age/power imbalance). This doesn't excuse his behavior, as he was married, in a position of power and trust over her, and supposed to be counseling her. Still, the words being chosen to describe this intentionally make it sound like a forcible rape of a younger child to outrage people and that seems unfair to me and sort of insulting to the many people who were sexually assaulted as young children within the IFB and other religious groups.

Jack Schaap should have been fired years ago for several reasons, including his sexual fixations that he shared with the church from the pulpit and through his writings. At the same time though, it is important to judge him on the facts, if we judge him at all, and not to go with ever rumor that comes across facebook or SFL.

I agree that he is human. Schapp, like Hyles before him, however, set themselves higher than human. One of the biggest problems in IFB churches has been pastor-worship. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard how godly and wonderful pastor so and so is - or how every question in life can be answered by and needs to be run though said pastor. The next news I heard of said pastor was either about his arrest for pedophilia or his divorce because of adultery. ( both of which would disqualify him from pastoring ever again according to 1Tim and Titus). The monuments made to men as opposed to God receiving all of the glory give testimony to their status oftentimes in their own eyes and in the eyes of their church members - the bronze statue, the fountain, garden, or school building.
When people believe all of this huff and puff, and the sinfulness of said pastor's nature finally bursts forth, the cause of Christ is what suffers. Those who followed "thus saith Pastor so and so, often defend the pastor unquestionably as they have been taught, or walk away from church, the Bible, and God altogether.
Yes, Jack Schapp is just a man. If he has committed a crime he should be prosecuted as any other man. If the woman was over 18, his home is still a wreck, how then could he possibly lead a church in God's way? Whatever the case, he should never be permitted behind a pulpit again - except to repent before the church.

Sex with a minor IS rape, regardless of the minors willingness to participate or not. That does indeed make him a rapist and a pedophile. Let's stop sugar coating this and call it what it is. He made a mistake? He accidentally fell into a kiss? Or more?? Why would he admit to anything more than a kiss if he doesntbhave to. He was supposed to be counseling this girl not becoming involved in ANY way with her. He abused his power and authority.

It is absolutely astonishing how obtusely arrogant and abusive he is. We need to let people know that this is not the attitude that Christ promotes for his believers. This man does NOT represent God, Christ or the Bible accurately...... not even close.

believer333 on 3:40 PM said...

"His sins are no worse than anyone else in Gods eyes. All sin is equal."

This is a mistaken idea. All sins are not equal. All sin separates us in different degrees from the presence and anointing of the Holy Spirit. But there are many sins that will reap greater distress and harm.

Paul said he obtained mercy for his sins because they were done in ignorance. Paul handed certain people over to Satan for the wrong teachings they promoted, but others he did not do that to.

Schaap has been arrogantly promoting himself and men in ways the Bible does not honor. He has been arrogantly teaching and preaching these lies in the manner of a bully with little respect for others. He does not represent Christ.

Anonymous said...

Listen to the followers of Schaap. According to our legal system, sins are NOT all equal. This man was the leader of one of the biggest cults in america. First baptist church of hammond indiana is the trunk of this cult and it branches off into many communities, and all these followers are brain-washed into believing what their pastors want them to believe. Scripture constantly taken WAY OUT OF CONTEXT...keep belittling what he did was equal to any other sin. If joe blow off the streets did that with one of your daughters, you would not be so forgiving.

Just like God says your sin will be found out..this man was an arrogant narcississ!!! I know how these fundemental legalistic pastors are... They make themselves to be God of the church... The members honor them as such and these Pastors esteem themselves higher then God.. what does the bible say pride comes before a fall... Went to a fundemental Baptist church in Sierra Vista Az and the Pastor is like Dr schapp as arrogant as ever.. His sons abused ppl in the church out in the open and basically got away with it cuz daddy God of the church, so many sinful wrong legalistic things goin on there and everyone afraid to speak up.. I follow God first not a man!! Glad I got out of there as did many families... Gods judgement will be done..nobody has special atonement, we all are sinners equally saved by Grace thru Jesus shed blood...

He doesn't stand for anything. He uses his " beliefs" as a cover up to prey on young kids. He uses his position and lame ass authority to intimidate young girls and fulfill his sick wants and desires. There is probably more kids abused if everyone would know or admit it.

I was born in Northwest Indiana and at a week old went to the First Baptist Church of Hammond led by Dr. Hyles. When I was 6 we moved away but at 21 I moved back to attend Hyles Anderson College. I sat under Jack Schaap in Church Ed and Old Testiment Survey. I was shocked one day when in Church Ed he started screaming at the dorm men saying "I'm sick and tired of you guys going to your dorm rooms alone and pleasing yourselves...." a man ran in the back door and shouted at Dr. Schaap that the speakers were still on over in the cafeteria where a bunch of the ladies were having classes and study time. Another thing he mentioned often was how "stupid it was that Dave Hyles messed up his entire future over 3 minutes of sexual pleasure" and then would elaborate on how for a man it only takes about 3 min to come to completion. I have been taught to not judge anyone UNLESS it is an authority figure. It is my job as a parent to look at a mans life and decide if I want to look at my kids and point to the man behind the pulpit and say "listen to him, he is the man of God!" I chose to simply move away shortly after Dr. Hyles passed away and Jack Schaap too over. It just didn't vibe right with me when he took over.

I am very sad that these events have come to pass. I consider FBC my home church although I no longer live in the area. I worked for Pastor Schaap and also for Mrs. Schaap. I considered it an honor to work for them. My experiences with Pastor Schaap have been nothing but inspiring and uplifting. The people of FBC are the finest people I've ever met and it is for them that I mourn. They are the ones who are going to have to get through this and continue to do the work that Jesus would have them to do. GOD's Will will be done in this matter because HE is always in control, no matter what it may look like. Please pray for Mrs. Schaap and her children and grandchildren! I know this is devastating for them privately and publicly! The truth will eventually come out - for good or bad. I know GOD can restore a ruined reputation - that is just one of many things I learned while attending FBC under Pastor Schaap's pastorate.

Jack Schaap is indded human. God sees all sins as equal. Reading today, the young lady yes I said lady, according to all accounts was of the age of consent. So those on their high horse casting stonesshould be quiet. This is a travesty for all involved. Brother Schaap does have very strong opinons but apparamtly you do to. And just to let you know sleeping with a 16 year old does not make you a pedophile. Pedophiles prey on young children VERY young children. When you stand before the Lord remember you are going to be judged for your sins Exactly as Brother Schaap will be judged for his. I am sure he asked the Lord for forgiveness have you?

I can't believe what I'm reading! Who can defend this sick pervert? No, a thousand times NO! All sins are not the same in God's eyes! What version of the Bible are you reading for that theology? Taking a pencil that doesn't belong to me does not equal taking a young girl's virtue, or robbing his wife of their love and trust or destroying the confidence of hundreds of preacher boys in his college, or the devastation left behind in a skocked and shaken church body. Please allow me to share just one thought. It seems to me that Jesus refered to a millstone around the the neck of people like him and to be cast into the sea. And don't flash that "age of consent" garbage. Let's just pretend that it was your sixteen year old daughter for about ten seconds.

A lot of these folks defending Schaap would have condemned Bill Clinton for his actions in the White House. HYPOCRITES!

Since the evidence was clear enough for the deacons to see to him being removed, why would you defend him as being innocent. The man has disqualified himself from the ministry, and no longer is to be looked up to as some "great defender of the faith." Yes, you are to forgive him, but he can never fill the pulpit again. If crimes have been committed, then he should prosecuted, and allowed to defend himself in a court of law.

Everyone is forgetting who cares about this so called paster. What about the girl? The church is paying him to hide out and still go on living while the girl and get family need allcounseling and may have to move. The church is giving this rapist all the money to pretend it never happen while the family have to come too reality. So god forbid you need counseling.... Don't go to the paster. I don't know if anyone remembers brother victor from the Spanish dept? This pastor ripped the church off. He stoled all the money from the offering and the church dismissed him and made sure they stayed shut so no one would know. There all fake people living a lie.

I just hope that all those pointing and criticizing can stop a moment and pray. Everyone pray for this girl, pray whatever has happened will come to light. Be it rape or not. Pray for Jack Schaap, pray he can someday restore his marriage and family situation. Pray for Cindy Schaap. God give her a big hug. Pray for the church body to regroup and heal. Pray for all those across the nation who have been hurt by this disheartening turn of events. Satan wants nothing more than to twist and turn every detail into nothing more than an awful mess, and laugh as the world says... If this is Jesus... Ill hav no part. Satan from day one, the very first impure thought, he had plans. Plans for that girl, jack, Cindy the church and each on of us. As I type, I think of how easy it is to point and blame. Lets be the Christian Christ would want us to be and pray. By no means am I trying to lighten the repercussions of sin, but simply trying to lighten the broken hearts involved. God is still on the throne.

First all all, this church is full of man who want to oppress women and girls. I must admit Schaap was a very gifted preacher and very charismatic. I left the church years ago because I hated the hypocrisy, the way men with some sort of position in their church and school drooling over women. I do know for a fact, she wasn't a bus kid, she attended the school and got into some trouble with a boy so they sent her to Schaap for counseling. What he doesn't realize is the girl and her family are not his only victims, be betrayed the entire church and thousands of Christian churches all over the country and world that looked up to him. What happened was, what was in his heart all along finally came to light by God Almighty. I think most of this churches members are brain washed and need lots of prayer to get through this. BTW, don't get angry at people's comments of outrage, stop being enablers. This man obviously needs help. We all have the right to voice out opinions, this America, remember?!!

I also agree. It is a great tragedy and we should be praying for this church.

I agree Anonymous 42! This was not a one time lapse in an otherwise spiritually sound man.

Those of you who are defending Schaap, consider this passage of Scripture, and see if it applies here.

2 Timothy 3:1-9
3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth — men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

Yes, hes just a man. And yes we are all sinners. But this man is a danger to society, taking advantage of this teen and who knows who else? He obviously has no respect for women as evidenced by many sermons. That's the problem with this brainwashed cult at First "Baptist Church". I know firsthand about this, as one of my relatives graduated from Hyles Anderson and was accused of the very same things Schaap is being accused of. The "Christian" college breeds these kinds of people. They should not be defended. They should be put in jail to protect other people from their disgusting perversion. Schaap obviously had some serious perversion issues as evidenced by one of his books where he refers to nearly everthing as relating to having sex. It's time people take a stand against this dangerous cult and protect their loved ones from the predator pastors that the church breeds. I highly doubt this is the first time this has happened for Schaap. How could one be so bold as to blaspheme God by using the position of pastor to commit adultery and ABUSE of a teenage church member and proceed to PREACH to the church and be OK WITH HIMSELF?? ISSUES PEOPLE...this guy has some SERIOUS ISSUES. And YES he does need to be put in jail to prevent it from happening again! THE ONLY REASON HE ADMITTED TO ANYTHING WAS BECAUSE HE WAS CAUGHT.

What experienced Baptist Preacher/Counselor doesn’t have enough intelligence to know that a man doesn’t counsel a woman alone? And especially for sexual issues? Really? David Gibbs has counseled in detail what to do and not to do in this day and age in regard to counseling, bus ministry, etc. So what do the leaders do with that knowledge? You think it’s just for the workers in the ministry? Do you know how many amazing young men and women you as leaders are discouraging by your pompous egotistical behavior? Shame on you.
I think more than anything it doesn’t matter what your role is in the body of Christ we ALL need to remember Satan is seeking whom he can devour, and the bigger the catch the happier Satan is. It’s a big old, “In your face God Almighty I just made another one of yours fall, AND I get bonus points for this one. All kinds of Christians will be discouraged, the unsaved will mock Christianity AND never accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.” Satan knows 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Jack Schaap just let Satan use him – shame on him – to drag how many more people to hell when Satan knows God isn’t willing any perish?
Christian men – get some back bone – stand up for what is right – you know what it takes not to fall to Satan’s temptation. Who said it was going to be easy? It’s a fight and you know darn well it’s worth it all when we stand in front of Jesus at that Judgment Seat of Christ. Will you please all let this incredibly sad, disappointing incident make you so mad you finally act like men and fight for what is right as children of God you all claim to be? I am so glad that First Baptist is calling Schaap out on this publicly. Now, for you church leaders that have been hiding sin take note. It might not be too late for you to get right and finally fess up to the perversion you are hiding for each other. What, you think God doesn’t know what you’ve been hiding for years? Shame on you.
If we can’t count on the lazy leadership that most IFB churches now possess then we the people need to take a stand!!! We need leaders that have hearts for God first and then God’s people and not leaders that do it for the notoriety. We need a church of leaders and people that have broken and contrite hearts. Not that God wanted this to happen, but if this can break a bunch of hearts God can use it. Those in Christian ministry that don’t have a heart for God and are just having a good old time, Go GET A JOB!!! God only needs a few GOOD men. WON’T YOU PLEASE STAND UP WHOEVER YOU ARE?

it is not schaaps van. what he did is very bad on its own,we dont need to make up stuff.

i definatly agree that you need your facts straight, but to say ths schaap is a great man is wrong. he stopped being a great man when he decided to rape that little girl, and possibly more.

I believe the girl is at fault here, too. Jack Schaap is a sick man for what he did. I believe at a time he was a great instrument for God, but he has gradually become more increasingly arrogant and above reproach by not heeding to anyone else's counsel. Both are at fault here. I am casting no stones here for we are all sinners and I have done my grave share of sinning myself. I have visited this church a few times for conferences and such, so I understand their doctrinal stand. I agree with their church and what they support. I also agree that they are a bit extreme and silly about some standards. To my original statement about the girl is at fault too, she does not need to be overlooked. Yes, it falls on Schaaps reputation for the actions, but 16year old girls know better than that. I believe she was seductive and was asking for this. Jack Schaap is not a rapist, pedophile I can understand, but he did not force her. This is still a great church and school, and Schaap can still turn his life around and be used of God. I pray he finds peace for his life and all involved.

The girl is at fault here as well people. 16 year old girls know better. They know when things are going in a wrong direction and when it is too far. I agree Schaap is a sick man for this, and it was gravely wrong. I am not casting any stones at anyone here. This is an example of arrogance and the result of being above reproach by not heeding to anyone's counsel. They are both at equal fault here in my opinion. This girl knew what she was doing. Yes teenagers are stupid and easily convinced, but she was not raped and she knew better especially coming from this doctrine. I agree Schaap is a pedophile and has committed criminally grave acts of sin, but we are all sinners, especially me and I have done my fair share of sinning. I believe at a time Schaap was a good man and a great instrument of God (some of his work can still be used for the glory of God), but when you are high minded and above reproach you have everything to lose. Sure, Schaap can turn his life around and still be used by God, but he will never be as effective and has done more harm in this week of uncovering than his entire 50+ years or so of service. I pray Schaap finds peace, makes it right with his wife, family, victims family, and so on, and overcomes this grave trial. We always fall, and we can always get back up. No man is above sin, no matter the title.

Jon - you really are making no sense at all. Please try to look at what you said, and see how it contradicts itself.

Part of the doctrine you speak of is not to question your leader and/or authority figure. Its easy to coerce people when if you have that in place. Remember human nature here. Its really is something you need to think about. They tend to hold all the marbles in their position. You seem to leave that part, or haven't thought about it totally.

You can't say that he is a pedophile, and then say she is at fault as well. He seems to be a take charge type of person, and from some of his fierce preaching no doubt intimating. Has it not crossed your mind that this also could be part of circumstance? If you lined them both up - who really has all the backing, authority, and support system? Its a very uneven equation there. People will support him over this child - which is the awful if you think about it. There is something wrong with that system. It should be there for both.

Lets take history, and point out the worse of the worse criminals for minute. I'm sure we could come up with some 'good things' they have said or did in their life. We can do that for anyone - even Jack. That does not take away the horror of what happened. It also doesn't take away the consequences of his actions, and those that have been enabling his behavior for quite a while.

He was in a high position of power and control, and compared to this young lady? He held most - if not all the cards. The bible states with this type of position he has much responsibility. Why do we hand over 1/2 of the consequences or fault then? Clearly that is not what scripture is telling us.

I pray that the man finds humility, and turns from his predatory ways.

They should make an investigative t.v. show like cheaters and name it christian cheaters.

Why does everyone have to bring Dr. Hyles into this. He is in Heaven. Didn't your momma teach you to not speak ill of the dead?

Anonymous said...

I believe he was very wrong, but you can't tell me there is no difference between sleeping with a 6 or a 16 year old. That's all anyone's trying to say. One is definitely a lot more perverted than the other.

I have not heard one person say that he should get his job back. They are just saying that he has done good things in his life, too. We don't need to worry about punishing him. It seems can do just fine without a bunch of people with a grudge.

Wow, can you even live a life with so much bitterness? You aren't hurting him, only yourself.

HAC/FBC have also turned out many Godly men and women. I have had several pastors and youth pastors from there, and guess what? None of them have cheated on their wives. A place that has so many people going through it is bound to have both good and bad results, and guess what? I've never been a big Schaap supporter.

Just a point on your transcript of Schaap's comments - I believe what he said after "I'm a preacher!" was "I wasn't 'Mama called' and 'Papa sent.'" I believe that is reference to some in ministry who take the profession because their parents wanted them to.

My thoughts and prayers goes out to Mrs Schaap and her kids. My question is why was the pastor counselling this girl. Where were all the female counselors. Especially since she was allegedly sexually abused already.

I came out of one of those churches. They r a cult. It seemed that the people that attended those type of churches worshipped the "man" rather than God. Im so glad i got out of it! Im still a christian and believe in God. I dont need to answer to a man but to God!! Oh yeah both are at fault. It takes two to tango!!!

Kudos to the FBC deacon board who dismissed Pastor Jack Schaap for an admitted adulteress affair with a 17 year old girl that started when she was 16. Yes consensual sex at the age of 16 is not illegal in the state of Indiana, but is in the state of Illinois. This is a man who took advantage of his position of authority at the age of 54 to prey on a teenage girl under his ministry. That is against the law in any state. The FBI is investigating and justice will prevail. Praises do not need to be going up for this man, but prayers should be and also for his wife and kids and the church who is left behind to deal with all of this. May God be with you and strengthen you and bless you because you did the RIGHT thing in firing this man and doing it swiftly. The church stood up for God and His Word and His teaching and let this man go because it was the right thing to do.Yes,hard, sad, even gut wrenching, but the right thing. Kudos to the dismissal and the spiritual growth that has happened to the church in the past 30 years.

God doesn't NEED Jack Schaap or any of the rest of us. In a vapor, Jack Schaap will be forgotten. As a matter of fact, most Christians have no idea who he is, nor do they care. He is only known by a very small right-wing sect of believers. He is a very little man with a very big ego. Trust me, the church of Jesus Christ will go on, without a glitch, until the Lord returns for us.

Great article and yes those things need to be said! How often over the years have we been duped by these "Christian Leaders". Just like his father-in-law, another scandel from someone in a position of trust. That is DEPORABLE! MUCH LESS A TEENAGER! Those of you who try to defend Jack Schaap should be ASHAMED! STOP LIVING IN THE CULT OF A MAN and turn your HEART TO GOD, OR ARE YOU JUST STUPID SHEEP?
Oral Roberts, Jack Hyles, Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggert...And the list goes on..
Profiting HANDSOMELY, while SHAMEING GOD!
Get your self rightous head out of the sand!!!
JACK SCHAAP MUST PAY FOR HIS SINS!!!!

The Bible says sin will find you out, it doesn't mean he is a bad man. He is a human and it could happen to anybody including me. So all we need to do is pray for Jack and his family. We know his family from Michigan and we were members of his home church in Michigan and we feel for his family.

Wow! It seems like some of you are happy that this man fell. If you really cared you wouldn't have so much hatred in your hearts. Yes this man mest up his life and the girls, and those around them. You say that your prayers are for this family and that I doubt it.
Just because one man failed that doesn't make every other preacher bad. So, what would you like to see? more porno shops and pot dispensaries these are the things that are hurting our young people try going after them. Who are you to condemn when someone falls instead of helping to restore. I hope nothing ever like this happens to you or to your family.
Because its easy to point the finger but when it happens to you. You are going to wish they had mercy on you like Jesus did with sinners while he walked on this earth. It is a sad thing for both sides nobody wins.

Hannah on 9:26 PM said...

Anonymous 69: The Lord has mercy on me just as he has mercy on everyone that comes to him with the right heart and asks for it. Fortunately, your opinion on the post has no weight with that.

I wish this poor man's pride had been removed prior to him ruining his life, and causing so much hurt to others. Its unfortunate that no one was strong enough in their faith, vigor, and character to help him see this coming. Instead they stayed silent.

Now we have people coming out to accuse others of hatred, nutty comments about porn shops and pot dispensaries, and claiming doubt on someone else's prayer life truly has any weight.

Seriously?!

This preacher was falling for some time, and no one loved him enough to stop him. Their silence makes them also guilty of helping to ruining lifes.

Check your bible...its in there.

I wish others could take his life as a lesson so they may save others from this tragedy. Its sad that people will instead get defensive, ignore the facts that were there, and go on there merry way parroting the junk that you have. That doesn't help others. It enables fallen men to continue, and tells victims you will take their side because being blind is better than seeing.

I feel sorry for you, and I will pray for you also. Yep. Believe it or not I will. Its okay to doubt it. That's between me and God anyway.

Hannah on 9:41 PM said...

Anonymous 68: I don't believe most people would do what he did. Yes, we all sin. There are too many people of character that would not go near this type of circumstance. Remember it didn't happen just once, but habitually. I don't believe you would do that either. Most people wouldn't.

Preachers are human, and will make mistakes like everyone else. They are also held to a higher standard per scripture. He had the responsibility to step down if his heart was not in the right place, and allow others to help him. If not for himself, but for the others he was to serve. What he did was a bad thing, and he torn families to pieces. His crime will be paid in prison, and judgement for that sin will belong to God. We all need to pray that he finds a way to true repentance in a manner that pleases God only.

In the meantime, we need to serve those that were hurt by his actions. They will be prayer and love in a way that brings healing.
