tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10948559.post113703998280787555..comments2024-02-08T21:51:21.368-06:00Comments on Emotional Abuse and Your Faith: A Paper called, "Spousal Abuse and the Church"Hannahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15165967476661656865noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10948559.post-30647259484152276012007-09-01T11:45:00.000-05:002007-09-01T11:45:00.000-05:00lucy tisland was my mother(she passed in '02 at ag...lucy tisland was my mother(she passed in '02 at age 50) and did her best to raise my brothers and i. she persevered through the years and clung to her faith with unwavering devotion. not a day goes by, i don't think about the events that changed the course of our lives. she was a tremendous influence on my life with the example she set. it touched the lives of countless people including young children all the way up to the elders of the church where she was a secretary, sunday school teacher, member in the choir, and numerous other capacities on a volunteer base. <BR/>you should update this story and share those facts with others who might come across this site. she could have abandoned her faith and beliefs and been justified fairly in doing so, but rather she chose to be a beacon, confidant, surrogate mother to many, and a shining example of not lying down in the face of adversity. she was a strong woman with a side of compassion that stretched the length of the mississippi river.<BR/>her example was memorialized in her eulogy through song, poetry, and example that left not a dry eye in the church. the funeral procession was the longest in the history of the undertaker, he was struck with awe at how many people followed to the cemetery. i say all that to say this, don't let this story inspire pitty and remorse for those involved, but rather hope for those still living what we went through. it has not been an easy road, although the clouds did roll back quite considerably the next morning(it stormed heavy that night). i sincerely believe now that she fulfilled her purpose here on earth to the fullest extent she or anyone else dealt that hand could have. she dedicated herself to a life of service and an example of infinite mercy and love to those in need. it was hard for me to comprehend at the time, why she would stay devoted to the faith which was the root of her pain for so long. her funeral was the day it all became clear, her life was definitely not in vain. please share this with your readers to conclude her life story and inspire others to be strong, take a stand, be compassionate and understanding of others pain, and not give up in spite of circumstance. <BR/>i am the middle of those five boys she raised, and i wanted to say thank you for carrying on her legacy and not to overlook who she was before and after the fact. my name is scott and i'm proud to say lucy was my mother and is my example. if you are so inclined to reach me, you can do so at skinychef@yahoo.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
